Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday night I do a live stream called Moving the Meter. I compose, produce, and perform new tracks, using a variety of multimedia production tools, including Ableton Live, Audionamix TRAX, ToonTrack Superior Drummer, a Clavia Nord Electro, a pair of Korg WaveDrums, Enttec DMXIS, and Apple Final Cut Pro X.

Learning how to program orchestral-type music, using EastWest’s Play plugin and Composer Cloud. Very powerful and expressive, with the limitless number of articulations available. Still just getting my feet wet, but I’m excited about the possibilities here. Until next time..
Working on a new ambient track, won’t have much in the way of drums. Incorporating a nice warm Rhodes patch from the Nord with some ambient patches from Omnisphere. Really digging it so far, LMK what you think. Until next time..
Starting to get the hang of SD3’s new grid editor. Really flexible, really powerful with all the different drum articulations you can program in. Not the fastest workflow, especially compared to using Live’s MIDI editor, but I’m brand new to it so still learning. Until next time..
Got into learning Superior Drummer 3’s new grid editor today. Lots of possibilities, excellent ability to program in articulations. Check it out. Until next time..
This evening we programmed a few different beats in 5/8. We approached the problem in a few ways: Basic take on a 6/8 rhythm with the last eighth note removed Latin jazz style (this is similar to Dave Brubeck’s classic, Take 5, played by the late great Joe Morello, but with a latin jazz approach to the ride) 5/4 back beat — this one was pretty in the pocket; ended up adding a bass part that I think will could …
I’m not even sure what we got into tonight, but I know it was fun. We put about 55 minutes into it, and ended up coming out with the foundation of a new 150 bpm track. Nice hard-driving rhythm, some cool glitched out bongos, and a bass part that is sure to get your head knocking. Excited to continuing building this one out and getting to an initial arrangement. Until next time..
Tonight we looked at how to play a halftime shuffle. I think this will be interesting for all you drum programmers and drum players out there. We go over some general concepts, as well as how to spice things up a bit with some ghost notes and whatnot. Watch this space for a whole road case full of more shuffle drum tutorial videos =D Until next time..
Ah yes, the skank beat. Loved by metalheads, punks, and thrashers the world over. Not so much by your grandparents, or your square friend who l-o-v-e-s Coldplay or other such driv. But in any case, if you’re on Venomisto.com you obviously have good taste in music and enjoy a good skank now and again. A quick rundown of some of the skank beat variations we cover in this stream: Skank beat D beat Giddy-up skank Power metal beat Down skank Also ran …
Right on, the Big 6-0. Not a bad way to ring it in, got into some odd time signature drum programming. 7/8! Until next time..
Drum Programming, oh yeah. Let’s do it let’s do it let’s do it. Overall this stream is actually kinda shot, but whatever we’ll go w/ it. Until next time..
